Sugar industry

Lime is indispensable when producing sugar from the juice of sugar beets. It is needed to remove the non-sugar substances from the grey extract during the liming process. Sugar factories produce the required lime by calcining (burning) high-grade FELS limestone. The resultant lime is then precipitated with carbon dioxide from the calcination process, thus producing pure sugar solution and carbolime fertiliser.
