Calcium carbide is used to produce calcium cyanamide. It is used in the plastics industry as a cost-effective filler that can also be used to adjust the physical properties of the plastic, such as stiffness and hardness. As a buffer against acids and bases, lime improves the quality of rivers and lakes.
