Fels starts cooperation with Litherm

The patented Litherm process enables the production of lime without CO2 emissions. Instead of using kilns fired with fossil fuels, this process involves heating and calcining fine-grained raw material in a fluidized bed using climate-neutral electricity. The formation of flue gases and their emissions are completely avoided. The CO2 escaping from the limestone during the burning process can be captured directly.
Another special feature of the Litherm process is that it requires undersized material for the burning process, which cannot be burned with established furnace technologies.

As part of the cooperation, Fels is providing a temporary site in Hornberg for the construction of a pilot plant. Fels will also supply limestone grit and, in return, will receive the burned products so that they can be tested for suitability in our customers’ processes.
