Limestone (medium)

Application

Crushed limestone and limestone chippings of medium grain size are mainly used as aggregates for asphalt base courses and concrete production. The outstanding properties of hard limestone are particularly useful in concrete construction:

• High bending tensile strength for slabs and surfacing
• Low creep coefficient for bridge structures
• Low thermal expansion for bulk concrete

Double broken and double screened chippings, common chippings and mixtures are used as aggregates for asphalt base courses. The high affinity of the limestone to bituminous and hydraulic binders significantly contributes to extending the life of an asphalt pavement.

It is also used in the iron industry.
